'Twas the night before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas (personal 2012 version by Walter Kowalczyk Jr.)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

A father was crying, just letting it all out;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care

Just like the Christmas' past when his child was still there;

The children of the world were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

In this mans house however it is dark and sad,

He sits alone thinking about the Christmas' he had;

He is grieving his child, who died on this exact day,

People in town listen and think, how could he live this way.

But this is how life is for the father, dark not bright,

For his child died exactly 2 years ago, on this night.

So he sits and cries to himself, wishing he could go back,

Then all of a sudden, he hears a boom and a crack.

As he wipes the tears from his face and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

The father asks, what are you doing here Santa?My child isn't here,

Hes gone far away and spending it with Jesus this year;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

These presents are for him, because he is not gone,

He is right beside you every step, the whole day long;

So its important to still light your tree and sing songs,

He remembers these tunes and will help you sing along;

You have to wrap some presents and stick them under the tree,

You have to praise your child, remember them and be happy;

You have too, even though you feel such pain,

You will have to relive this day over and over again;

Don't let this break you, don't lose the spirit of this night

Show him how you love him and never lose sight;

Of how important today is, for all the girls and boys

Even the ones in heaven, watching us play with the toys

So go out, give gifts, and spread that Christmas cheer,

Just do things exactly as if your child were still here;

Think about the gift it was, getting to share all those years,

“Thank you Santa”, for telling me what I needed to hear;

Sometimes I forget how lucky I used to be,

Now you see, that the man in this story, that father is me;

"So this year, I got you a very special gift", Santa said,

He handed me a present with a bow, all big and red;

He told me its all the love that my son wanted sent to me,

And that it was much to large to fit under any tree;

I sat and I cried, and I let out a loud yell,

He told me about my son, said he remembered him well;

Santa gave me a big hug, and let me weep,

When I was done, he smiled and stood on his feet;

He told me to stay strong, it shouldn't be too much time,

Until then live life without worry because he is just fine;

Then I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,

"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!"
